If there has been one certainty over the past decade in the world of fashion and style, it’s this: Whereever Tom Ford goes, people follow. Which means they’ll now be driving about 20 miles outside Santa Fe to formerly sleepy Galisteo. Ford, who owns some 24,000 acres there, has commissioned Pritzker-Prize winning architect Tadao Ando to design his compound. If you do make the pilgrimage, stay at the Galisteo Inn, a recently repurposed eighteenth-century hacienda wit h comfortable rooms and tongue-in-cheek references to cowboys past.

“Stylish retreat…Aspen. Carmel. Galisteo? Yep, lil ol’ Galisteo, New Mexico, 25 miles south of Santa Fe, joins the rural-chic short list drawing fashionistas in search of respite with style. Ex-Gucci designer Tom Ford recently bought a ranch nearby. And now the owners of the trendy Ballantines Hotel in Palm Springs just redid the Galisteo Inn, a 14-room hacienda with a Zen take on Southwestern style — meaning keep the colors, hold the patterns. The main building dates to 1703, but the lap pool, Wi-Fi hookups, and massages are au courant. Best yet, you can get these designer goods at thrift-store prices”
Galisteo Inn is the boutique hotel in Galisteo, Santa Fe County, NM
